Lucrative Deals at Police Vehicle Auctions
So you are at a point where no one really needs to sell you on the fact that police vehicle auctions are a good place to shop for bargains. Perhaps you just need a good strategy to follow in order to translate your efforts to some serious dollar savings. If you're strategy includes the following 4 steps, you will be well placed to achieving your goals set for these auctions.
Inspection of the Vehicle
This is a gift from the police department - the opportunity to inspect the ins and outs of the car. Make use if it!! Most auctioneers won't actually allow you to drive the car for a 'test run', but you will at least be in a position to inspect the engine and look for any troubling mechanical signs.
The Vehicle's Registration Number (VIN)
Most folks very easily forget about the basics. This can easily get you in a fix. If you need an overview report on the auto's history (on issues such as if it's been stolen, damaged, etc), you can obtain this with the vehicles registration number at no cost. This is an absolute invaluable report which provides great information and will help you decide if you wish to even consider buying at the police auction
Researching the Auto's Title
Even though the police department does do some work to make sure there is no outstanding claims on the title of the car, they by no means do a very thorough job. Best to check this yourself as you do not want to sit with a financing house repossessing the car you just bought.
The Valuation
Going into the auction without a good reasonable estimate of the valuation of the car you’re interested in would be suicide. It's very similar to running around in a bear infested forrest, completely covered in honey. If you do not have any idea or estimation on the valuation of the vehicle, you will usually bid until you win. Frequently this will be much more than what it's actually worth. Therefore it's imperative that you have a good 'handle' on the valuation so to stop you not bidding a cent more than its fair value.
With all of this information you will usually be perfectly prepped for a standard police vehicle auction. It's very commonplace for people to get distracted and caught up with the auction activities on the day at live events. The secret to success is to remain calm and stay on course with your strategy. No one is more successful than the calm and collected bidder who normally walks away smiling in the sunset.
